Akshata Almad, PhD
Doctor
Dr. Almad received her PhD in Neuroscience from the Ohio State University and completed her post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University.
She is a Research Associate in Dr. Adeline Vanderver’s lab and a part of at Leukodystrophy Center for Excellence at CHOP. The focus of Dr. Almad’s research is understanding the role of glial cells in neurodegenerative diseases.
Currently, her work is focused on modeling leukodystrophies such as H-ABC and AGS using rodent and human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) to understand cellular mechanisms. Importantly, these models will be used to test screening of therapeutic targets and conduct pre-clinical studies.
